To God Be The Glory

Cloud Forest
It was a real honor to be able to go up into the Cloud Forest with our 2011 "It's A God Thing Team".  I am constantly amazed at the beauty of the country and people.  Our trip is planned this year for June 1 - 10, under the leadership of Bucket Guthrie.  We request your prayer support as we prepare and while we are away.  For more information you may contact me at brendahyche@gmail.com.

Living Mission

Each year while on the mission field in Honduras, my husband and I shared our feelings about how we wish our folks back home in our local church could all experience the blessings of this type of servanthood.  But, how could that be possible?  They could not all go to Honduras.  This question was answered not long ago while I was walking along side one of our members who was actively involved in tornado relief in Cordova, Alabama.  She said: "I guess this is what it feels like when you are in Honduras?"  She was not talking so much about the devastation as she was about how the services she was rendering made an effect on her personal life.  She felt blessed - she felt humbled to be a vessel of God for Him to use in such a way.  Being blessed does not mean that we were spared from a direct "hit" by the tornado, or that we have what others may not have.  Being blessed means we have been left with the resources we have, in order to help those who have not.  Being blessed means God has given us the opportunity to share, love, hug, encourage and walk beside those who suffer lose.

New Team Members

Shalom Girls Dorm

"It's a God Thing" team members with "our" girls.
Honduras 2011
Two of the "It's A God Thing" team girls from Shalom traveled with us to Belaire in June 2011, spending the week working along side us as very valuable members of our team.  Mery and Yaquai added so much to the success of our mission.  They are not only beautiful - they are smart and talented Christians who are active in their Church.  We met Yaquai shortly after she came to Shalom as a 15 year old.  She just celebrated her 19th birthday in August, and we are very proud of the young woman she is becoming.  During our visit to the dorm this year, two members of our team decided to sponsor the two newest girls of the Shalom family; and, one assisted a special need of one of the other girls.
 Personally, I believe in Shalom.
I have seen how it works and how the love and instruction changes lives for the better.
Thank You to all who have contributed to the girls dorm!
It is a success story.

Missions 101

Come on bloggers and lean a hand - give me your number one thing that you would want to tell someone who is going on their very first mission trip.  Let's give some advise to Rookies and help them realize the dream of being a Missionary.
Finish these sentences -
"The one thing I received from my first mission trip was.........."
"The thing I now freely give on mission is..........."
"On my first mission trip I wish I had known............"
"My advice to anyone who is considering going on mission is........"

They give so much....

The highlight of every trip to Honduras is the time we get to feed the children who live near the dump in LaCeiba.  The faces sometimes change from year to year, but the need is always there.  Jesus taught us while He lived here on earth that everyone has something to give.  The people I meet in Honduras always give me more than I could ever hope to give them.  They give me perspective, they give me hope, they give me love and they give me a great desire to be more Christ-like.  We sometimes talk about "being blessed" here in a country such as America.  But I've found out that our understanding of the word "blessed" needs some redefinition. Being truly blessed does not always mean all is well.  Being blessed means you have the means and opportunities to share what you do have.  There can not possibly be any greater blessing than that.  My Honduran friends are truly blessed with a multitude of resources to share.  They have given so much of themselves to me.
